The NYU Keywords website was created in tandem to the publication of Keywords for American Cultural Studies, Second Edition. The purpose of the site is to provide supplemental information to college students and faculty who are reading materials in class.
The core goal was to craft an online version of the book that leveraged the distinct tools of digital media to provide the best online viewing and exploratory experience for readers. To do this, we first made sure the site was responsive and that the responsive viewing experience was easy-to-read and navigate.
Other considerations we addressed were: font sizes and treatments for the best online reading experience, using iconography to help illustrate different types of materials, and condensed navigational tools. We leveraged hidden screen space to help maximize the amount of information delivered, while making sure the interfaces remained tidy.
